Extreme Sports - Wakeboarding and Waterskiing

!±8± Extreme Sports - Wakeboarding and Waterskiing

Wake boarding and water skiing are immensely popular water sports enjoyed by today's youth. Sun, sand and water are all that it requires for people to come out of their homes and enjoy among the joys of nature. In water skiing, a person standing on double skis or slalom is pulled behind a motor boat. Wake boarding is similar to water skiing in being a surface water sport, only the individual rides a wake board instead of a double ski. Wake boarding is a relatively new sport that derives its origins from a combination of water skiing and snowboarding.

These sports are a huge craze in the sport-loving nation of Australia. Both require however a little more than just sun, sand and water- the right expertise and the correct water skiing equipment and wake board equipment.

Wakeboarding Equipment:

Wakeboarding essentially requires two components- a boat and a board. Though the specifications for wake boat are not stringent, there are boats available commercially specifically designed to cater for wakeboarding. These boats are designed for performing this sport in lakes, and not seas. This is of importance to beginners trying to grasp the basics of wakeboarding. Common boarding brands are Malibu, MasterCraft, Moomba, Centurion and Tige. In the Australian domestic market, Cobra Ski and Board is an established and trusted name.

Boards are generally made up of foam and coated with fiberglass. The foam maintains the buoyancy factor which is critical for this particular sport. To this core are attached wakeboard bindings and fins with the aid of metal screws. Wakeboard bindings and fins are adjustable and are adjusted differently by different riders. These are used by riders to perform different tricks while boarding.

Another component of a board is the "rocker" which is essentially the bend that extends between the head and tail of the board. Continuous and three-stage rocker are the major types and they determine the speed of the board on water. Other important parameters are the length, width, bottom design, and placement of the fins on a wakeboard.

Water Skiing Equipment:

The main components in water skiing are the skis, a ski line, and of course, a boat to drive the rider on the ski. A single ski is much easier to operate, though beginners find it easy to ride on a mono ski. Length of the ski is of importance, and generally ranges between 7'0 to 8'0. Length of the ski line, however, depends on the kind of boat the rider is riding, along with water conditions at the time of the ride. While riding, the skier must position himself/herself in the correct manner to ensure a smooth ride. Correct posture in water skiing is of utmost importance.

Cobra Ski and Board offer reliable and sturdy water boarding and waterskiing equipment and is a trusted brand in the field of extreme water sports. Their products can be ordered online and standard payment modes apply.
